33121 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology: How many deputy chief executive or equivalent roles, if any, are in the Minister's departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, and what is the total number of employees in these departments, agencies, crown entities or any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: As Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, I have no responsibility for any government departments. Regarding agencies, Crown entities and any other bodies under the Science, Innovation and Technology portfolio, the NZ Institute for Earth Science (ESI), NZ Institute for Bioeconomy Science (BSI) and the NZ Institute for Public Health and Forensic Science (PHFS) came into effect on 1 July 2025. While transitional chief executives have been appointed for ESI and BSI, roles for the rest of the executive within these organisations have not yet been appointed, including no appointments for Deputy Chief Executives within these organisations.
Research and Education Advanced Network New Zealand Limited (REANNZ), and Callaghan Innovation have no Deputy Chief Executive roles.
I have been advised that current CRIs and other bodies under the Science, Innovation and Technology portfolio, have the following number of employees (attached table):
