Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Internal Affairs: How many deputy chief executive or equivalent roles, if any, are in the Minister's departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, and what is the total number of employees in these departments, agencies, crown entities or any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for?

Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised that, as of 4 July 2025, the Department of Internal Affairs had 2,737 staff. It has six Deputy Chief Executive or equivalent roles carried out by five Deputy Secretaries and one Director of the Office of the Secretary. I am advised that, as of 30 June 2025, Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fire and Emergency) had 3,090 staff. It has seven Deputy Chief Executive or equivalent roles. Fire and Emergency’s executive is also responsible for the training, health and safety, service delivery, and other elements related to 11,830 volunteers. On 30 June 2025, the organisation had a total headcount of 14,920. I am further advised that, as of 7 July 2025, the New Zealand Lotteries Commission had 251 staff, 23 of whom are fixed term. It has no Deputy Chief Executive or equivalent role. I am also advised that, as of 7 July 2025, the Office of Film and Literature Classification had 27 staff. It has one Deputy Chief Executive or equivalent role carried out by the Deputy Chief Censor. This is a statutory appointment, which also carries out the function of Board member under the Crown Entities Act 2004.
