33028 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How many, if any, new state houses does Kāinga Ora expect to deliver in 2026/27?

Hon Chris Bishop: I expect Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities to focus on renewing its portfolio and maintaining its managed stock at 78,300 +/- 500. As set out in its 2026/27 Statement of Performance Expectations, Kāinga Ora is expected to renew 2,000 (+/- 10 percent) homes this financial year, made up of: • 1,600 (+/- 10 percent) new builds; and • 400 (+/- 10 percent) retrofits. Kāinga Ora is expected to offset its 1,600 (+/- 10 percent) new build activities (redevelopments and acquisitions) with 1,600 (+/- 10 percent) sales, lease expiries and demolitions.
