Hon Brooke van Velden: My role as Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety is to ensure the Equal Pay Act 1972 is fit-for-purpose, not to consider the merits of any particular individual claim. The changes to the pay equity regime were intended to maintain a process to raise and resolve pay equity claims, while providing a better framework for parties to use to assess whether there is sex-based undervaluation.
