32287 (2025). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: How does WorkSafe collect and validate data from the Government’s road cone hotline, if at all?
Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised that when WorkSafe receives notifications through the road cone hotline, their Notification Agent reviews the information in them to ensure the notifications' validity. This includes checking the notification has valid details such as a working email address, that the map and address location is accurate, and that the information in the form is legitimate. Using the location information, the relevant region is identified, and a summary of the notification information is shared with the appropriate road controlling authority for that region or with NZTA if it relates to a location on the state highway network.
WorkSafe keeps a tally of the notifications received, and it publishes weekly reports on its website with information on the numbers of notifications, and which regions they relate too.
