32158 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister of Transport: Further to WPQ 28022, has the Minister asked Waka Kotahi to review the DSI (Deaths and Serious Injuries) modelling for the Desert Road following the recent fatalities; if not, why not?

Hon Chris Bishop: I have not specifically directed NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) to review the DSI modelling for Desert Road. Through the Ministry’s Road Safety Objectives released in October 2024, NZTA are currently investigating expansion of the safety camera network. As part of this action, NZTA are undertaking updated modelling (using updated road safety data across all New Zealand roads). This modelling will inform NZTA’s road safety activities after June 2027, subject to priorities set under the next Government Policy Statement on land transport.
