32135 (2025). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How many, if any, of the 212 housing projects Kāinga Ora has cancelled included a lack of government funding as a contributing factor to their cancellation?

Hon Chris Bishop: All 212 housing projects were not funded under the public housing plan which was created by the previous government. Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that there are several factors behind its assessment of social housing projects, including value for money and location. The decisions made will allow Kāinga Ora to move forward with confidence into the next phase of the Kāinga Ora Turnaround Plan. Kainga Ora reviewed more than 460 social housing projects across the country to make sure it is getting best value for money and delivering houses in the areas of greatest need.
