Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: Did the Minister factor in the compliance records of ring-net fishers to allow them to fish in High Protection Areas within Tikapa Moana / Hauraki Gulf and if so does he have confidence that these ring-net fishers will comply with the law and if so why and if not why not?

Hon Shane Jones: The compliance records of fishers was not a factor in the decision to provide for ring-net fishing within two of the high protection areas proposed in the Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana Marine Protection Bill.
