31963 (2025). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: Does the Minister believe that his proposals to replace annual catch limit decisions with ‘multi-year catch' decisions will affect opportunities for public consultation and stakeholder engagement and if not why not if so how?
Hon Shane Jones: The proposal for multi-year catch decisions will maintain opportunities for public consultation on the decision to set Total Allowable Catch levels, including on whether to apply a multi-year catch limit to a particular stock and the details of the multi-year catch decisions to be made during the agreed time period. Should new information become available during the period of the multi-year catch limit to suggest the outcomes sought from the agreed settings would not be met, there would be public consultation on new settings.
