31825 (2025). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Housing: What opportunities currently exist, if any, for Community Housing Providers other than the five Strategic Partners, including those who already own land ready for development, to provide new social housing places?
Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is actively soliciting proposals from Community Housing Providers (CHPs) for social housing in Auckland to ensure there is a pipeline for around 550 additional places for delivery by end of November 2026. Around 500 of the 1,500 places funded from Budget 24 will be delivered by CHPs outside of Strategic Partnerships as ‘Maintaining Momentum’ places, and around 300 will be delivered through community led approaches in Rotorua and the Hawke’s Bay region. I further understand that HUD will explore opportunities with other Community Housing Providers for delivery in other parts of the country once the delivery pipelines for Strategic Partners are confirmed.
