31772 (2025). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: Is the Minister proposing to exclude bottom long-line vessels over 32 metres and vessels under 8 metres using set nets from the cameras on boats programme and if so why and if not why not?
Hon Shane Jones: I recently consulted on removing a small number of vessels from the requirement to be fitted with cameras where having them was either not practical (such as a vessel is too small or has no independent power source), or because observer coverage is the best method. These proposals only apply to long-line vessels over 32 metres, set net vessels using the mothership and tender model, and vessels under 8 metres. There are currently 14 vessels that this would apply to.
