31501 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: Of the 17 Roads of National Significance listed in the 2024 Government Policy Statement on land transport, how many does the Minister of Transport expect to be under construction by the end of the current parliamentary term?

Hon Chris Bishop: As outlined in my press release of 9 July 2026, four projects are already under construction: the Ōtaki to north of Levin Road of National Significance, Hawke’s Bay Expressway, Takitimu North Link Stage 1, and SH29 Tauriko West (Ōmanawa Bridge). In addition, the first stage of the Northland Expressway is in the final stages of procurement and is expected to commence construction before the end of the year, bringing the total number of projects under construction by the end of the current parliamentary term to five.
