31222 (2025). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: How many FTE permanent Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) have been hired and have started since August 2024 in Tairāwhiti district?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that since August 2024, a total of 4 FTE permanent Senior Medical Officers had been hired and have commenced employment in the Gisborne district as at 17 June 2025. Our Government remains focused on strengthening the frontline and supporting our regional hospitals to attract and retain the staff they need.
