31193 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister for Energy: Has the Minister received any advice on how the removal of Powerswitch will affect price competition between electricity retailers?

Hon Simon Watts: I am not aware of any ConsumerNZ plans to "remove" Powerswitch. According to ConsumerNZ, they have operated Powerswitch for 25 years. I am advised that the Authority has had a formal funding agreement with ConsumerNZ for the last several years. The Authority's new service will promote the benefits of comparison and switching, to encourage price competition between retailers.
