31136 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Internal Affairs: How much, if any, did the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, spend on the carbon neutral government programme in the 2025/26 financial year?
Hon Brooke van Velden: Department of Internal Affairs:
I am advised by the Department of Internal Affairs that $217,000 was spent on the Carbon Neutral Government Programme in the 2025/26 financial year. This includes costs for NEMA and MEC.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand:
I am advised that Fire and Emergency New Zealand spent $13,459.00 excluding GST on the carbon neutral government programme for the 2025/26 financial year.
The Classification Office:
I am advised that the Classification Office is not covered by the carbon neutral government programme however the Office has a range of measures to reduce environmental impact. The Office does not own or lease any vehicles; and has minimal expenditure on air travel and uses public transport for short around-town trips
Lotto New Zealand:
As an autonomous crown entity, Lotto NZ is not required to report under the carbon neutral government programme, so does not budget for the programme specifically. Lotto is voluntarily certified as Toitū net carbon zero. Details of the approach are published in the Integrated Report.
