31104 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Internal Affairs: How much, if any, have the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, budgeted for the carbon neutral government programme in the 2026/27 financial year?
Hon Brooke van Velden: Department of Internal Affairs:
I am advised by the Department of Internal Affairs that $218,500 was budgeted for the Carbon Neutral Government Programme for the 2026/27 financial year. This includes costs for National Emergency Management Agency and the Ministry for Ethnic Communities.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand:
I am advised that Fire and Emergency New Zealand have budgeted $13,695.00 excluding GST for the 2026/27 financial year for the carbon neutral government programme.
The Classification Office:
I am advised that the Classification Office is not covered by the carbon neutral government programme and does not have a ringfenced budget for this. There are a range of measures to reduce environmental impact. The Office do not own or lease any vehicles; have minimal expenditure on air travel and use public transport for short around-town trips.
Lotto New Zealand:
As an autonomous crown entity, Lotto NZ is not required to report under the carbon neutral government programme, so do not budget for the programme specifically. Lotto is voluntarily certified as Toitū net carbon zero. Details of the approach are published in Lotto New Zealand’s Integrated Report.
