31097 (2023). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Resources: In relation to Reply 30543 (2023), does he believe more offshore oil and gas exploration will impact Maui dolphin?

Hon Shane Jones: There are five marine mammal sanctuaries in Hector's and Māui dolphin habitats. In these sanctuaries acoustic seismic survey work is restricted. The effects of other activities associated with petroleum exploration are appropriately regulated under various Acts including the Resource Management Act 1991, the Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environmental Effects) Act 2012.
