Written Question
Published date: 23 Jul 2026
31027 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Climate Change: How much, if any, have the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, budgeted for the carbon neutral government programme in the 2026/27 financial year?
Hon Simon Watts: As Minister of Climate Change, I am responsible for the Climate Change Commission and New Zealand Green Investment Finance. I am advised that the Climate Change Commission, as an Independent Crown Entity, is not subject to the carbon neutral government programme.
I am advised that New Zealand Green Investment Finance has budgeted $0 for the Carbon Neutral Government Programme in the 2026/27 financial year.
I am not responsible for any other departments, agencies, Crown entities, or other bodies. Members may be aware that I previously referred similar questions to the Minister for the Environment as Minister responsible for the Ministry for the Environment. That responsibility ended when the Ministry for the Environment merged into the new Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport (MCERT). Responsibility for the new Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport now sits with the Minister responsible for RMA Reform.
For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, I refer the Member to the Minister of Foreign Affairs response to WPQ 31076 (2026).
