Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister for Biosecurity: Has MPI considered requiring offshore monitoring, surveillance, or verification systems before fresh blueberries are exported to New Zealand, and if not, what options have been considered and what are the reasons for any conclusions made?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I am advised that the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has considered offshore monitoring, surveillance, and verification systems. These are an integral part of managing the biosecurity risks from fresh blueberries and will be reflected in the bilateral arrangements between MPI and its counterpart organisation in the exporting country.
