30940 (2023). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Resources: In relation to Reply 30012 (2023), when he said "gas is an important transition fuel," how long does he think gas will be part of our energy system?

Hon Shane Jones: Natural gas is critical to supporting the electricity system to meet daily peak demand and firm longer term electricity supply. I will be working with officials to make sure we have the natural gas available for electricity generation and for the economy as long as it is needed to keep the lights on and New Zealand running.
