30822 (2023). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister for the Public Service: Further to the Minister’s response to written question 28916 (2023); when will the Government be providing guidance to public service Chief Executives on savings?

Hon Nicola Willis: I have written to Ministers, in my finance portfolio, asking that their agencies find savings ahead of Budget 2024, with individual agency targets informed by headcount growth since 2017. Ministers have been asked to identify the most appropriate savings options, focusing on low value programmes, programmes that do not align with the Government’s priorities and non-essential back-office functions including contractor and consultant spend. Further guidance will be provided through the Budget 2024 process.
