30806 (2023). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Resources: In relation to Reply 30036 (2023), does he not think he should know how much coal is held in New Zealand before allowing an expansion to current coal mining operations?

Hon Shane Jones: New Zealand has extensive coal resources with estimated in-ground resources of over 15 billion tonnes. The Government is interested in developing and utilising domestic coal resources rather than relying on imported coal for its energy supply.
