30794 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: How many instances of “trusted insider” involvement in illicit drug importation were identified at ports and airports in New Zealand from 1 January 2025 until 31 May 2025 by port of entry?

Hon Casey Costello: I refer the member to the attached appendix which shows the total number of investigations undertaken by the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) involving trusted insiders at sea and airports for the period 1 January 2021 to 12 June 2025, broken down by year, location, port and investigations. Customs defines “trusted insiders” as anyone who has been given access to a business’ systems and physical premises that are not employed by Customs.
