30757 (2025). Shanan Halbert to the Minister for Vocational Education: What function(s), if any, that Te Pūkenga currently delivers will remain centralised under the new system?

Hon Penny Simmonds: Te Pūkenga will be fully disestablished by 31 December 2026 if not before. There will be no continued centralised delivery of functions, although individual polytechnics will be free to make their own arrangements across the network of polytechnics. The federation model as drafted in the Education and Training (Vocational Education and training System) Amendment Bill provides a framework for designated polytechnics to access relevant services and other shared services that may be required for their effective and efficient operation or management.
