30724 (2025). Shanan Halbert to the Minister for Vocational Education: Further to the Minister’s response to Written Parliamentary Question 22715, which of the remaining functions that Industry Skills Boards will hold are more clearly scoped?

Hon Penny Simmonds: The broad leadership function of Workforce Development Councils will be replaced with Strategic Workforce Analysis and Planning. This will focus Industry Skills Boards’ strategic activity on issues that are directly relevant to their industries and delivering the skills and workers that they need. The investment advice function of Industry Skills Boards will be focused on advising the Tertiary Education Commission on priority investments for those sectors, rather than also including advice on overall investment in vocational education and training. Industry Skills Boards will be expected to focus directly on meeting the needs of their industries, and the employers, apprentices, and trainees within them. This will inform their operational priorities and the approach they adopt to their core work of developing and maintaining qualifications, standards, and credentials.
