Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police: Further to Written Parliamentary Question 29455 (2026); What formal capability analysis, if any, was undertaken comparing the actual specialist capability of the Wellington Police Maritime Unit against the capability provided by the alternative responders?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Police has not prepared a standalone capability assessment report comparing the specialist capability of the Wellington Police Maritime Unit against alternative responders. However, Police analysed the capability of alternative maritime responders by discussing with Coastguard regarding its capability and capacity to respond to any additional service requests that may arise, feedback from maritime partner agencies, and Police's operational knowledge of partner capabilities through established working relationships and joint responses.
