30708 (2025). Shanan Halbert to the Minister for Vocational Education: Further to the Minister’s answer to Oral Question Number 11 on the 5th June 2025, what advice, if any, has the Minister received about job losses at polytechnics, workforce development councils, universities and Ako Aotearoa, by date and title?

Hon Penny Simmonds: I have not received any advice about specific job losses at polytechnics, workforce development councils, universities, or Ako Aotearoa. Employment decisions are an operational matter for each individual organisation and it would not be appropriate for me as Minister to become involved in such matters. For completeness, I note that I have received summary advice about changes Te Pūkenga is making across its polytechnic business divisions to improve their financial performance, including changes to programmes and staffing. Ultimately these are the responsibility of Te Pūkenga’s council and I have not been advised of specific impacted roles.
