30695 (2025). Shanan Halbert to the Minister for Vocational Education: Further to the Minister’s answer to Oral Question Number 12 on the 5th June 2025, how is the current representation of Māori on polytechnic council’s ‘tokenism’?

Hon Penny Simmonds: Individual ITPs (Polytechnics & Institutes of Technology) do not at present have councils. I have made my expectation clear in the legislation that there will be an integrated and embedded acceptance and integration with Māori to ensure they are working closely with communities, with iwi, with hapū to address issues that Te Pūkenga has failed to address.
