30634 (2026). Lemauga Lydia Sosene to the Minister responsible for Ministerial Services

Written Question

30634 (2026). Lemauga Lydia Sosene to the Minister responsible for Ministerial Services: Further to his reply to written question 8809 (2026), how much was spent in 2025/26 for functional improvements to staff and function areas at Premier House and what further work, if any, will be undertaken in 2026/27?
Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: I am advised that the Department of Internal Affairs recently concluded a programme of critical remedial work at Premier House on 30 June 2026. These works addressed areas of the property that have significantly degraded and required urgent repair. I am advised that the last significant refurbishment to the exterior occurred in 1990 and consequently work was required to ensure the property is weathertight, its heritage is protected, and it can continue to be used as a residence and function venue. Final costs can’t be released at this time as costs for financial year 2025/2026 are not available yet due to the Department’s year-end financial processes but will be proactively released once year-end processes have been completed. I am advised that planning for works for 2026/27 is underway, aligned with the long-term maintenance plan for the site, but the final scope has not yet been confirmed by the Department.
