30621 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: How many cases of Customs or logistics personnel facilitating illicit drug importation have been referred to Police and/or prosecuted in each of the last 5 years?

Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) has not commenced any investigations into staff involvement in facilitating illicit drug importation in the past five years. Customs does not record cases where logistics personnel facilitating illicit drug importations have been referred to the New Zealand Police and/or prosecuted as they are not staff of Customs. However, I refer the Member to my response to Written Parliamentary Question 28816 (2025), which provides the number of investigations undertaken by Customs involving trusted insiders within the supply chain smuggling drugs since 2014.
