30605 (2023). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: Does the Minister intend to “provide more support for victims through increased funding for grants to support access to counselling, mental health services, or help with transport costs when attending court hearings” as set out in the "Real Consequences for Crime" document of the National Party and if so, when will victims be able to access this additional support?
Hon Paul Goldsmith: As a starting point, the Government is focused on:
- reducing the number of victims of crime;
- implementing a different approach to sentencing which achieves real accountability for victims of serious crime, including youth crime; and
- speeding up the court system.
From there, the Government will consider a range of practical, evidence-based initiatives that promote positive outcomes for victims. Details of any initiatives for victims will be announced when appropriate.
