30580 (2023). Steve Abel to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: How many welfare inspections for bobby calves, if any, were conducted in the years 2020-2023; listed by year?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I am advised that Ministry for Primary Industries Verification Services inspect all bobby calves that are presented at processing premises for slaughter as part of the ante mortem process. The number of welfare-specific inspections for bobby calves, including proactive inspections, responding to complaints, and resolving referrals for 2020-2023 are as follows: 167 in 2020, 177 in 2021, 177 in 2022 and 250 in 2023.
