30542 (2023). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Resources: Will the Government limit the number of new offshore oil and gas exploration permits it issues based on the volume of gas it believes New Zealand needs for the energy transition?

Hon Shane Jones: Removing the ban on offshore oil and gas exploration is a priority for the Government. Gas is an important transition fuel for maintaining New Zealand’s energy security. I will be receiving ongoing advice on removing the ban as this work develops.
