30515 (2023). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Energy: Does the Minister think that New Zealand's energy supply should be secure, reliable and resilient, including in the face of global shocks, if so, what action, if any, will the Government take to improve this?
Hon Simeon Brown: Yes, I do. The Government is committed to a range of actions to improve energy security:
• Doubling renewable energy production.
• Repealing the ban on offshore oil and gas exploration.
• Commissioning a study into New Zealand’s fuel security requirements.
• Investigating the reopening of Marsden Point Refinery. This includes establishing a Fuel Security Plan to safeguard our transport and logistics systems and emergency services from any international or domestic disruption.
