30457 (2023). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Energy: Does the Minister think cutting funding for programmes to support businesses to decarbonise will reduce or increase emissions, and what data does he have to support this view?

Hon Simeon Brown: Unlike the previous Minister, I do not consider that using taxpayers' money to reduce profitable businesses' emissions is the right approach – they should be paying for the emissions reductions themselves. The ETS is a key tool for delivering emissions reductions across the economy, including in the energy and industry sectors, and the Climate Change Commission’s analysis and advice is evidence of that.
