30455 (2023). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Energy: Does the Minister think the Huntly Power Station could operate using only gas, if so, why?

Hon Simeon Brown: On 30 November 2023, Genesis Energy published its new corporate strategy to 2035, Gen35, which includes development plans for Huntly covering ongoing use for gas, a grid scale battery and conversion for one unit to biomass. Genesis announced that it intends to displace the role for coal with alternative fuels as soon as practical. A unit at Huntly was successfully trialled on biomass earlier in 2023.
