30379 (2023). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Resources: Does the Minister agree that countries should "promote and consider their respective obligations on human rights, the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment, the right to health, the rights of Indigenous Peoples, local communities, migrants, children, persons with disabilities," when progressing a phase out of fossil fuels, as suggested by the United Nations Climate Change Conference, if not, why not, and if so, how will this inform his government's resources policy?
Hon Shane Jones: Gas is an important transition fuel for maintaining New Zealand’s energy security while we electrify our economy. Dependence on imports erodes our security and increases our emissions. We are acting to avoid that.
