30377 (2023). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Resources: Does the Minister agree that countries must continue "transitioning away from fossil fuels in energy systems, in a just, orderly and equitable manner, accelerating action in this critical decade," as suggested by the United Nations Climate Conference, if not, why not, and if so, what policies or initiatives does the government have underway in the Resources portfolio to progress this, if any?
Hon Shane Jones: Gas is an important transition fuel for maintaining New Zealand’s energy security while we electrify our economy. Dependence on imports erodes our security and increases our emissions. We are acting to avoid that.
