30374 (2023). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister of Climate Change: Does the Minister agree with Resources Minister Shane Jones that "we need to ensure ... that we don't abandon gas and, if necessary, coal," if so, does he think that maintaining coal as part of New Zealand's energy mix aligns with New Zealand's agreement at the United Nations Climate Conference to support "Transitioning away from fossil fuels in energy systems, in a just, orderly and equitable manner, accelerating action in this critical decade,"?
Hon Simon Watts: I stand by the governments position maintaining transition fuels for maintaining New Zealand’s energy security while we electrify our economy and that dependence on imports erodes our security and increases our emissions.
