30297 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Associate Minister of Housing: How many emergency housing applications were declined in each month since 27 November 2023, and how many of those applicants, if any, received any alternative support?
Hon Tama Potaka: The Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) has identified that a proportion of clients who have been declined emergency housing have received some form of other assistance from the Ministry. This assistance includes the Accommodation Supplement, Housing Support Products, a Transitional Housing referral or at least one hardship assistance payment, for example, a food grant, bedding or clothing. To calculate these statistics, the data captures assistance granted over the three days before a decline and up to seven days after. Clients may have received other assistance over this period and also may have received assistance outside of the timeframe. Analysis shows that this statistic experiences minimal month-to-month variation. Additionally, reporting on a quarterly basis provides more meaningful insights by smoothing short-term fluctuations and highlighting underlying trends.
