30290 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Associate Minister of Housing: Further to reply 28938 (2026), of the 668 households permanently housed across the four regions as at 27 May 2026, how many would have been housed through ordinary social housing allocation in the absence of the September 2025 actions?
Hon Tama Potaka: The Government’s near-term actions, announced in September 2025, increased social housing capacity by an additional 300 places for Housing First clients.
It is not possible to determine how many of those households would have been housed through other means, such as social housing. However, it is clear is that these actions are delivering results - with 668 households permanently housed through those places, or within contract capacity, as at May 2026.
