30178 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: If internationally recognised safety standards for new corded window coverings will be made mandatory through an amendment to the Fair Trading Act, and the Minister has given businesses one year to comply once standards are made, is the realistic entry of force of the standards 2028?
Cameron Brewer: Mandatory product safety standards for corded window coverings will be prescribed via secondary legislation made under section 29 of the Fair Trading Act, not through an amendment to the Fair Trading Act. There will be a one-year transition period before the mandatory standards come into force, subject to consultation. The date when the standards come into force will therefore be announced in due course
