30162 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Customs

30162 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Customs: How, if at all, has the number of individual workstations changed over the past 12 months for each of the Minister’s responsible agencies, if any?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised by the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) that workspace capacity is defined as office/desk space and excludes open operational and/or inspection spaces, e.g. airports, warehouses, and Customs Controlled Areas.
Customs has recently moved its central Auckland Office to floors five, six and seven of AECOM House, and in doing so has reduced its office/desk space by 1,472 m2 with this relocation.
Customs is the servicing department for the Border Executive Board and the Secretariat, who are based in the Wellington Office.
Customs is unable to provide information on the number of individual workstations that have changed over the past 12 months without undertaking substantial collation and I consider that this use of officials’ time is not in the public interest.
