30117 (2026). Cushla Tangaere-Manuel to the Minister for Emergency Management and Recovery: What engagement, if any, with iwi, hapū and marae has taken place during the design and establishment of SafetyNet as a Schedule 4A Crown Company, and at what stage of the process did that engagement occur?
Hon Mark Mitchell: Before becoming SafetyNet Critical Communications (SafetyNet), it operated as the Next Generation Critical Communications (NGCC) business unit within New Zealand Police from 2020 to deliver the Public Safety Network solely for Fire and Emergency New Zealand, Hato Hone St John, Wellington Free Ambulance and Police. SafetyNet is now engaging with Te Puni Kōkiri, Tū Ātea and the Iwi Chairs Forum to better understand future communication needs and demand, and how it can best support iwi and marae in the years ahead.
