30065 (2023). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: Does the Minister agree with Nicola Willis’ statement that “I want fewer people smoking and I think that we need to keep that goal in mind,” and if so, what reports or advice, if any, has he or his office received on the expected revenue generated from tax on cigarettes?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: Yes, I agree with that statement. I have not received any reports or advice specifically regarding expected revenue generated from tax on cigarettes. As the Member will be aware, the Minister for Revenue is responsible for revenue generated from tax in New Zealand.
