30041 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: What has been the financial impact, if any, of disestablishing 22 Customs roles responsible for trade, revenue and compliance service delivery since April 2024, and what is the estimated foregone revenue in duties and excise?

Hon Casey Costello: I am advised by the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) that 22 Customs roles were disestablished as part of Customs 2024 Organisational Change Programme resulting in the following changes in the Trade, Revenue and Compliance team: - eight vacant roles were disestablished - twelve Customs staff sought, and were granted, voluntary redundancy - two Customs staff were made redundant. The total redundancy costs for the 14 impacted staff was $1,305,322.88. The approximate annual salary savings linked to the 14 impacted roles is $1,473,000. As part of the Customs 2024 Organisational Change Programme, the work of the Trade, Revenue and Compliance team was restructured and reassigned to ensure that there would be no impact on the collection of Crown revenue (GST, duties and excise). Since April 2024, there has been no discernible impact on the collection of Crown revenue following the organisational change process.
