29928 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: How many canine drug detection units were operational at international ports of entry as at June 2025, compared to the same time in 2023?

Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that in June 2023, the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) had a total of 15 operational dog teams. As at 10 June 2025, Customs has 10 operational dog unit teams, with four additional dog teams scheduled to become operational in July 2025, and others becoming operational in 2026 and 2027.
