29905 (2023). Hon Julie Anne Genter to the Minister for Energy: What work, if any, has started to double or triple renewable electricity generation?

Hon Simeon Brown: As part of our 100-day plan, I am progressing work on a National Policy Statement for Renewable Electricity Generation to make it easier to consent wind, solar and geothermal projects. I have also axed the Lake Onslow pumped hydro scheme, which industry experts warned could have a chilling effect on the pipeline of renewable electricity generation in New Zealand. Together, these actions will give industry certainty in the direction the Government is heading and greater confidence to invest in more energy production in New Zealand.
