Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Local Government: What estimate, if any, has the Minister received of the additional per-election cost to territorial authorities of running local elections if regional council elections are abolished under the Simplifying Local Government reforms, given that territorial authority elections are currently subsidised by regional councils sharing fixed costs?

Hon Simon Watts: Any increase in election costs is something that councils will likely consider when they make decisions about how to resource and deliver their 2028 local elections.
