29891 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Local Government: What advice, if any, has the Minister received on whether the Local Electoral Act 2001 and Local Electoral Regulations 2001 require amendment to support any council wishing to use booth voting at the 2028 elections, and when does the Minister intend to advise councils of the Government's position?
Hon Simon Watts: As Minister of Local Government, I have received preliminary advice on the Local Electoral Act 2001 and Local Electoral Regulations 2001. While amendments could be made, booth voting can be conducted under the current statutory framework. It is up to councils to choose what system to use.
